Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the time in your child's life between birth and age 5 and contains seven areas of learning and development.  Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are;

Communication and language

Physical development

Personal, social and emotional development

The three prime areas are those most essential for your child's healthy development and future learning as they grow. The three prime areas will help them to develop skills in the four specific areas. These are;

         Understanding the world

         Expressive arts and design

These seven areas are used to plan your child's learning and activities.  Early Birds ensures that the activities available are suited to your child's unique needs.  Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. Early Learning Goals (ELGs) are the expected levels that your child should reach at age 5, usually at the end of reception year.

Our phonics teaching (learning to read by matching sounds to letters) begins with sharing stories, songs and poems.  We currently follow the popular 'Read Write Inc' phonics scheme devised by Ruth Miskin.  Please click the link for more information
